We are used to hearing about positive discrimination to compensate for historical differences in the disadvantages of women in various conditions . But there is also negative discrimination based on sex, which is a condition for gender violence. One of those areas, in which women are systematically harmed, is health. There are high-impact and enormously disabling diseases that affect only or mostly women. For obvious biological reasons, some diseases affect only women, such as endometriosis , gynecological tumors and diseases derived from pregnancy and childbirth. But there are other diseases where the prevalence is much higher among women than among men.
For example, fibromyalgia ( of those affected are women), chronic pain , autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and endocrinological diseases . A woman's immune system could be more reactive, which Fax Lists would work against this type of disease in women. All of them are complex, systemic and chronic diseases. Many of them also cause neuropsychological dysfunctions, such as fibromyalgia or systemic lupus erythematosus. For none of them there is a curative treatment, the available treatments being only palliative, and the patients being subjected to continuous diagnostic tests, palliative attempts and oscillations in their condition, although always of a chronic nature.
Gender stereotypes Many women who suffer from these diseases suffer from the gender stereotypes that are still found in the health system. In and Kane studied the attitudes of primary care physicians toward patients (both men and women). They analyzed the attitudes of professionals towards the narration of the health problems that their patients told them. They observed that of women were described as patients who complained too much , their symptoms were more frequently attributed to emotional influences than in the case of men, and their illnesses were classified as psychological in origin in . , while those of men were only.
